PUNTA GORDA

The City of Punta Gorda is a vibrant waterfront community, unique in character and history. With a population of over 20,000, this growing community has much to offer. Nestled along the banks of the Charlotte Harbor, this community offers residents a small town experience with the amenities of fishing, biking, kayaking, boating and much more. It has over 18 miles of bicycle and pedestrian trails that will take you around the City’s waterfront and downtown districts. You can walk your neighborhood and meet up in downtown Punta Gorda for a light lunch at one of our many locally owned and operated restaurants. Punta Gorda is also home to Fishermen’s Village, which is comprised One of the more unique characteristics about Punta Gorda is its seawalls and waterfront living. There are 18 miles of seawall managed and maintained by the City. 

Preserving Punta Gorda’s rich history is a top priority for its citizens. Its roots trace back to the landing of Ponce de Leon and DeSoto County in the early 1500s. “Punta Gorda” in Spanish means “fat point,” referencing the City’s land jutting into Charlotte Harbor. The National Register Historic District was established to help protect historic structures and promote public awareness.
